Frisco Parks & Recreation Earns National Accreditation

Residents of Frisco TX homes are fortunate to be served by an excellent parks and recreation department. The agency oversees the Frisco Athletic Center, Frisco Water Park, the Senior Center at Frisco Square and other community facilities in addition to parks, trails and athletic fields. It also hosts special events, programs and camps for people of all ages.

Frisco Parks and Recreation has received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The agency received the award at the 2017 NRPA Annual Conference in New Orleans.

Accreditation signifies that a community’s parks and recreation agency is well-run and provides valuable services to the community. Agencies must meet strict standards of programs, resources, land management, safety and facilities. There are a total of 151 standards that must be met for accreditation.

Currently there are 155 accredited parks and recreation departments in the U.S. To maintain accreditation, agencies must make an annual report of their activities and have an additional evaluation five years after the initial accreditation.

To earn accreditation, an agency must complete a detailed application, conduct an internal assessment of its own performance, undergo a visit from trained evaluators and then have a hearing with the commission.

In addition to the accreditation, Frisco also won three awards in March 2018 for its parks and recreation services. The first is a Gold Medal for the most well-managed Texas parks and recreation department in its population category. The second was a regional award for best park design in its population category for Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt. Third, The Senior Center’s Golden Givers won the ‘Cool Idea’ award for their public outreach work. All three awards were presented at the Texas Recreation and Park Society Institute and Expo in Waco.

Frisco Parks and Recreation serves more than 165,000 residents. The city has been named a “Best Place to Raise an Athlete” and “Best Place to Raise a Family” by national sources.
