Little Elm TX Earns Scenic City Certification

Efforts to create a more beautiful city are paying off for those who make their homes in Little Elm TX. The city has just been awarded Scenic City certification by Scenic Texas. The program honors cities that have shown a commitment to creating scenic public spaces and attractive roadways to preserve the natural beauty of the state.

Scenic Texas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping Texas beautiful in the eyes of its residents and tourists. Along with its partner organizations, Scenic Texas named Little Elm as one of 13 Certified Scenic Cities in its 2018 Scenic City Certification Program.

There are now 75 Certified Scenic Cities in Texas. Each year, cities already on the list can re-certify or upgrade their status, while others can make the list for the first time. This year marks Little Elm’s first time on the list. It debuted with a Silver ranking.

Any Texas city can apply for certification and must meet a strict set of standards set by the program. The city’s municipal infrastructure ordinances relating to public spaces and roadways are reviewed for compliance with those standards. Cities are scored with a point system to determine which ones make the list and what level. Each city then receives detailed feedback about the evaluation. The feedback helps cities spot areas where they need to improve their scenic appeal. It also lets them know what they’re already doing right to make their city attractive to residents and visitors.

By participating in the program, cities can increase community pride, educate residents about the importance of regulating the appearance of public areas and roadways, learn ways to improve the character of the community, and receive an expert review of their development plans and standards.

Other Texas cities receiving new Scenic City designations this year are Duncanville, Manor and Nacogdoches.

The certification awards will be officially presented at the Texas Municipal League’s annual conference in Fort Worth on October 11, 2018.
