Understanding the Home Building Process

First, you’ll choose your lot and floor plan. Once the contracts are signed and deposits are paid, the building process for your new home will follow these steps:

Pre-construction: The lot is prepared. Forms are set for the foundation and slab.

Stage 1 of Construction: Inspections are done. The slab is poured and the foundation is built.

Stage 2: The house is framed. HVAC chases are built. Fireplaces are installed.

Stage 3: Main plumbing is added. The exterior of the home is sheathed. Windows, doors, roofs and decking are installed. The house is now weathertight and secure.

Stage 4: HVAC, electric and security systems are roughed in. Insulation is added.

Stage 5: Brick is started on the exterior. Sheetrock is hung on the interior.

Stage 6: Brick and/or stucco are completed. Stairs, cabinets and interior trim are added.

Stage 7: Countertops and ceramic tile are installed. The house is painted.

Stage 8: Plumbing, electrical and HVAC are finished out. The top coat of paint is applied. Gutters, fireplace fronts, shower doors and other finishing touches are completed. The lot is graded, shrubs and trees are planted and fences are installed. The home is thoroughly cleaned.

Stage 9: Wood floors and carpet are installed. The home is cleaned again inside and out.

Stage 10: Any needed cleaning and paint touch-ups are done. The new owners have an orientation at the house. After orientation, the home is cleaned for the final time before closing.
