At John R Landon Homes, we’re dedicated to building the finest luxury homes that are designed around your life. We create the home you’ve always dreamed of, and where your memories will unfold. Because we build better homes for families, we want your new home to be a place where you can relax and have some fun. In that spirit, we’d like to share some of our favorite Halloween Party ideas!

Menacing Mantle Decorations – To create a creepy cemetery display for your mantle, you first need to make some scary skeletons. Pick up a half dozen sugar pumpkins, spray paint them white and brush with silver glitter paint. After drying, use black permanent marker to create sunken sockets, and then stack the “head” on top of a larger pumpkin that will serve as the body. Complete the design by buying Styrofoam tombstones at a party supply store, and embellish them with silver acrylic paint.

Another option for your mantle is to create a ghostly portrait gallery. Find an old book, like one on Civil War history, and photocopy 19th-century portraits. Then, mount the pictures on somber, coal-colored mats. Complete the look by placing three or four candlesticks around the pictures, and drape them with fake cob webs.

Pumpkin Punch Bowl – Anyone can serve punch in a glass bowl. When you’re throwing a Halloween party, it’s time to get creative! Start with a low, fat pumpkin. Cut off the top one-fourth of the pumpkin. Scoop out the innards and seeds, and then use paper towels to dry the inside of the pumpkin. Place a large, plastic bowl inside the pumpkin, and then stuff paper towels around it to make sure that the bowl is tight and secure inside. Pour punch or apple cider into the bowl and serve.

Charmed Potion – Give your stemware a ghoulish touch, and help guests identify their goblets with shimmery spiders. Pick up some crafts store spiders and spray them with adhesive. Then sprinkle each spider with a different shade of glitter, and hot-glue to black pipe cleaners. Wrap the pipe cleaner around the glass stem, and let the arachnid rest on the bowl.

Creepy Crawlers – Invite more “spiders” to your Halloween party, in the form of decorative lighting. Scoop out some mini pumpkins, attach four black pipe cleaners on each side for the spider’s legs, and then place a tealight inside.

Devilish Desserts – Serve up some frightful-looking cookies for dessert by frosting slice-and-bake sugar cookies with white royal icing. Follow up with black icing to create cobweb designs, scary ghosts and scary messages.
