How to Get Your House and Yard Ready for Spring

Spring is upon us and it’s time to get our new homes in Rowlett TX ready for the season. You’ve probably already thought about (or started!) your indoor spring cleaning, but what about the outside of your house and the yard? They need attention at this time of the year, too.

• Start with a walk around the outside of your house. Look for any cleaning or repairs that need to be done. Make a list of things to do yourself and things to hire someone to do.
• Check the gutters for clogs and debris, or have a pro do it if you aren’t comfortable on a ladder. Remove any debris by hand or with a small trowel. Then flush out the gutter with a hose. Make sure the water flows into the downspouts and away from your house.
• Once that’s done, power wash the outside of your house with detergent made for that purpose. Be careful not to damage the siding, stucco or other materials. Also wash decks, porches, patios, and paved areas as needed.
• Clean windows inside and out. Wash and replace window screens if you’ve taken them out for the winter.
• Clean and set out outdoor furniture, décor and children’s toys. Clean play sets and refresh mulch underneath if necessary.
• Get grill ready if it’s been stored over the winter.
• Take care of any landscape maintenance not included in your HOA. Clean up leftover fallen leaves as well as sticks and twigs that have dropped over the winter. Cut back dead perennials before new growth starts.
• Get a head start on weeds. Pull them out as soon as they emerge. Add a layer of mulch on landscape beds.
