What is a SEER Rating?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It represents the amount of cooling power a unit has in relation to the amount of energy it uses. The SEER rating is calculated by dividing the cooling output of a unit during the cooling season by the watt-hours of energy is uses to produce that cooling. The higher the number, the more energy-efficient the unit is. Energy-efficient air conditioners use less electricity to cool your home. They lower your energy usage and therefore your utility bills.
